How can I tell a palomino apart from the thoroughbred?

the thoroughbred's die is square right ?

an the the palo not

Other way around. Palos are square, tbreds are rectangular. That's the quick and dirty way.

Generally, a Palo die is near square and the tbred is rectangle. Another thing, the palo has all the markings written on the die itself where the tbred markings are written on the packaging.

Here are photos of Thunderbird, Palomino and Thoroughbred: pics Notice what pillage2001 said... the Tbred has a black label at the edge, the others don't.

Anand couldn't even clean the HS compound off the CPU's before snapping the picture?
He's lazier than I am! 😛

Since no one's mentioned it, and I think it should be said... the color of the packaging has absolutely nothing at all to do with whether it's a Thoroughbred or a Palomino. I've heard people say "Palomino's are green, T-Bred's are the brownish oranagish red." That's not true... while it may be true some of the time, it's in no way a fact... I've had a green Palomino, and a brown Palomino.

Link from www.overclockers.com, I think this will help..

I just got my tbred and took out my palo, i was amazed at how much smaller the tbred is.

actually, for me smaller size means less efficient heat dispersal. my tbred is running a bit hotter than my palo was and i have a better HSF on the tbred too.

As long ppl still can't tell which one is which one....😀

I think AMD should just put something on the chip that will tell what it is....like maybe some set of numbers or something like that 😀
It really would help ppl out 😉

AMD did...the most apparent one IS the Pally had the writting on the core while the T-bred uses a black label sticked on the packaging...but still...it didn't help to clear the confusion.

OK What's the difference between the two? My mobo will support up to a 2200+ and I want to upgrade my 1.33. It's a Gigabyte GA7DXR
