How can I stop being such a Pessimist?

I'm a very outspoken person but I think my negativity is rubbing off on the people around. I don't like it but they have the patience to put up with me which is good for now... don't want to wear out my welcome.

Anyways any tips on how to make me see life in a more uplifting view?

Important facts about me:

23
Bachelor's degree
College Debt in the 4 figures
No debt other than college debt
Perfectly healthy... as far as I know
Outspoken individual
No kids/ex gf baggage etc.
Could pick up everything and take off if I needed

I'm so detailed oriented... for example take a movie: I focus on how they didn't do this or that right but at the end of the day the movie was meant to entertain me... not be a game to find all the mistakes or clever little details....

My friends/family said with all my attention to details that I should have been an engineer... instead I do marketing. Go figure...

ok ATOT, discuss

You are describing a perfectionist, not a pessimist.

A perfectionist has extremely high standards (too high to ever reach). Perfectionists tend to be highly intelligent, so they see through thin veils on any flaw. The perfectionist tends to point out the flaws rather than point out the successes. Others around the perfectionist perceive that trait to be negative.

A pessimist predicts the possible flaws and often prepares solutions for them. Thus, when a flaw occurs, the pessimist is ready and is able to ignore/overcome/change the flaw. A pessimist may or may not be negative/gloomy in general depending on his/her ability to succeed in the flaw negation.

Thus, I think you need to focus on being more of a realist.

im cynical, kinda like you. being cognizant of it is the first step. ive only realized this , after i noticed the same trait in a friend , in a farrrr more severe manner. its not an appealing trait. atleast if youre aware, you can tone it down. i now rethink about what i choose to express, and how it will be perceived.

all that said, im still negative :D

That would cause me to be broke and I would be all agitated/probably addicted by then, knowing that I wouldn't be able to smoke pot anymore.

ballmode has never smoked pot. Seriously though, try it. And it's cheap.

Or, if drugs and girls aren't your thing, try getting out more. Spend time outside. Not just outside in the city you live in (although that's a start), like outside in nature. It will slow you down, let you live "in the moment" and allow you to let go of other thoughts you might want to think. Things like your debt, your job, and your relationships.
