For some reason it's taking a lot longer for me to transfer files from my DVD drive to my hard drive. I'm not sure what changed but I'm curious if there is a setting that will speed up file transfers.

Is the DVD drive slaved to the hdd? If it is it will slow down file transfers. To fix this, reconnect the the dvd drive on a different channel. Also check in the properties of the ide port controller to make sure it is using UDMA transfer. Other than that, it could be the DVD drive is dirty or having a hard time reading due to misalignment of the laser and will need to be replaced.

Check to see if Starforce is installed: Start->Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Manager. Click View->Show Hidden Devices, then expand Non-Plug and Play Drivers. If Starforce is listed, that's likely your culprit. You can find out how to remove it here. Note that any installed games that use Starforce will probably cease to run after removing it.
