how can i silence my geforce 6600?

I have a PNY GeForce 6600 (non GTX, GT, FX, MX, AXX, MTY HBRD HOTY DTH) and it's really loud. It's by far the loudest component of my system. I don't need some super powerful cooler, just something that won't sound like a jet engine. Looking around on newegg, all I see are expensive ones (50 to 60 bux which is about what I paid for the card in the first place), or ones that are not compatable with the 6600. Any suggestions?

If it's an AGP card, you'll probably have a hard time finding an aftermarket heatsink that will fit. I'd recommend just removing the plastic cover on the top of the old heatsink and the old fan as well, and then somehow positioning an 80mm fan to blow directly on the exposed heatsink fins. You probably have a spare case fan somewhere, so this shouldn't cost you anything. You can attach it with zip ties or a bent PCI slot cover or something, just make sure it's blowing toward the heatsink and is mounted very close to it. If the fan is still too loud, look up the page on SilentPCReview.com for modding it to run at a lower voltage.

Make sure that it will fit your specific card. It is supposed to fit standard 6600 cards but there were some that didn't follow the standard PCB layout.

I'd buy that, but I'm a little leary about that site coming from yahoo.net. Shouldn't it be yahoo.com? Seems like a phishing site...

and how can I fiond out if mine follows the "standard PCB layout"?
