I have Office 2007 installed and have several email accounts. For each, I have had to enter incoming and outgoing server addresses and user names and passwords.

How can I transfer this to a new XP install so that I don't have to re-enter all that information?

Office 2003 has a "Save My Settings Wizard" that allows this easily.

But, 2007 does not have that tool!

Edit: Modified the title to state that the source is on Vista.

Try WinXP's own transfer option: Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Files And Settings Transfer Wizard.

Thank you. That is good to know.

What if the source is on Vista?

On Vista, use the Easy Transfer Wizard. I don't think you can Easy Transfer from Vista to XP, however.

In that case, you might just have to do the deed by hand. It doesn't really take that long, probably less time than you've spent on this thread so far ;)

OK. I didn't want to do it unless there was no way.
I guess there isn't.
Thanks!

Set up Outlook 2007 on XP.
Used XP's transfer wizard and made a backup of all Windows settings. The backup file size is 4.8MB!
Then, re-imaged XP and installed Office 2007. Attempted to restore the backup using XP's transfer Wizard. It did not restore Outlook 2007! It seems like XP transfer wizard ignored Outlook 2007 and did not store it. Is it because Office 2007 is newer than XP?
So anyway, that did not work.

I used the demo version of OutBack plus 6. http://www.ajsystems.com/obp.html
Using it, I was able to backup my Outlook 2007 settings on Vista 64 and restore it on XP pro to Outlook 2007.

If anyone knows a free program that can do the same, please post.
Thanks!

My personal opinion:

You can't 100% trust the FAST Wizard. It DOES usually work, but if it doesn't, and if the old PC doesn't exist anymore, than you have a problem if you don't know all your old Account settings. And it sounds like it doesn't work at all going from Vista to XP. :(

What this means is that, before tearing down an old PC, you need to KNOW all the old Account settings.

Once you have gone to all the trouble to write the old settings down, then it isn't that big a deal to type them into the new Outlook.

Obviously your old PST file will have all of the actual folders, emails, and local rules, so you'll get those easily. Be sure to keep PLENTY of copies of that old PST around, though. It never hurts to have an extra one.

Hehehe...sounds like I'm saying the same thing as mechBgon.

I've been scratching my head about this recently, for purposes of not only migrating users but also for the frequent "Holy ____ time to rebuild my system!" issues...I found some help in--get this--the Outlook Help system!

I know...it surprised me as well...I was also surprised to find out that the Rules are now enacpsulated withint the PST structure...who knew?

Anyway, I think this may provide the help I was looking for, but haven't had time to try it...when/if someone does, please update this thread. A copy/paste from the help file is below, as well as where to find this information by navigating the Help system.

I have had no luck locating a freebie utility anyone has yet written.

A prettier copy of the text below can be found within the Outlook 2007 Help system by navigating thusly:

Outlook Home --> Accounts and Data Files --> Data Files --> Where does Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 save my information and configurations?

Here is the content of the entry:

===========================================
Q: Where does Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 save my information and configurations?

A: The following is a list of locations where Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 saves information.

Some of the folders might be hidden folders. To display hidden folders, do the following:

Windows Vista
In Windows, click the Start button, and then click Control Panel.
Click Appearance and Personalization.
Note If you are using Control Panel Classic View, double-click Folder Options, and then continue with step 4.

Click Folder Options.
On the View tab, under Advanced settings, under Files and Folders, under Hidden files and folders, select Show hidden files and folders.
Microsoft Windows XP
Click the Start button, and then click Control Panel.
Click Folder Options.

Click the View tab, and then click the Show hidden files and folders option.

Your configuration may not include all of the following files. Some files are created only when you customize Outlook features.

Personal Folders file (.pst)
Windows Vista drive:\user\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows Server 2003 drive:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Offline Folders file (.ost)
Windows Vista drive:\user\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 drive:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Personal Address Book (.pab)
Windows Vista drive:\user\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 drive:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Note Personal Address Books (.pab) are no longer supported by Office Outlook 2007. When you upgrade to Office Outlook 2007, you are prompted to import any .pab file into Contacts. If you choose not to import the .pab file, you can import it later by using the Import and Export command on the File menu.

Offline Address Book (.oab)
Windows Vista drive:\user\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 drive:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Command bar and menu customizations (.dat)
Windows Vista drive:\user\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook\outcmd.dat

Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 drive:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\outcmd.dat

Navigation Pane settings (.xml)
Windows Vista drive:\user\AppData\Roaming\Outlook\profile name.xml

Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 drive:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\profile name.xml

This file includes Shortcuts, Calendar, and Contact links.

Registered Microsoft Exchange extensions (.dat)
Windows Vista drive:\user\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 drive:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Outlook Contacts nicknames (.nk2)
Windows Vista drive:\user\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook

Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 drive:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Rules (.rwz)
Windows Vista drive:\<user\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook

Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 drive:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Note If you upgraded to Office Outlook 2007 from a version of Outlook earlier than Microsoft Outlook 2002, you might have an .rwz file on your computer's hard disk drive. The .rwz file is no longer needed, and the information about rules is now kept on the server running Microsoft Exchange, and in the Personal Folders file (.pst) (Personal Folders file (.pst): Data file that stores your messages and other items on your computer. You can assign a .pst file to be the default delivery location for e-mail messages. You can use a .pst to organize and back up items for safekeeping.) for POP3 (POP3: A common protocol that is used to retrieve e-mail messages from an Internet e-mail server.) and IMAP (IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol): Unlike Internet e-mail protocols such as POP3, IMAP creates folders on a server to store/organize messages for retrieval by other computers. You can read message headers only and select which messages to download.) e-mail accounts. So you can delete the file.

If you use the Rules Import and Export feature, the default location for .rwz files is drive:\Documents and Settings\user\My Documents.

Print styles (Outlprnt with no extension)
Windows Vista drive:\user\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook

Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 drive:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Dictionary (.dic)
Windows Vista drive:\user\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\UProof

Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 drive:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\UProof

Templates (.oft)
Windows Vista drive:\user\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates

Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 drive:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates

Send/Receive settings (.srs)
Windows Vista drive:\user\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook

Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 drive:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Message (.msg, .htm, .rtf)
Windows Vista drive:\user\Documents
