How can I remove a wine cork without a corkscrew? EDIT: SUCCESS!

My girlfriend got a bottle of wine for her 21st b-day and wants to have some -- but we have no corkscrew. She doesn't want to take my idea and bash the top of the bottle off and drilling it out would leave bits of cork in the wine. Any ideas?

If you remove the wire and shake the bottle while massaging the top of the cork, it may just pop out.

If not, hmm.. that's a good question. I'd imagine that you could just go to any local store and get one for a couple of dollars.

have you tried a quarter and pliers method? Cut a quarter on the radius and bend both ends enough to create a small corkscrew. Then turn it, grab the end sticking out with a vice plier and pull. you could always just filter the cork out of the wine after knifing it.

Poke a hole through the cork and then push the cork into the bottle. When you invert the bottle to pour the wine the cork will float to the highest point a allow the free flow of liquid.

If the cork has portruded at all from the top of the bottle, try some pliers to yank it out. Otherwise, I have if you have a drill bit handy, that might double as a way of at least getting it part of the way out.

Push a syringe into the cork and pump air into the bottle, thereby releasing the cork.

Hmmm, lots of good suggestions. We are too lazy to go and buy one which is why we're trying to figure out another way to do it....

Take a woodscrew and screw it into the cork. Take a pair of pliers, grab the screw and pull.

Nope, this is real... :) (I suggested drinking her stupid margarita mix since I figure she won't even like the wine, but you know how girls are)

That works, I've done it but I use a clawhammer instead of pliers.

It's worked for me. Just be careful not to knock yourself out while your pulling and make sure you get the screw pretty deep into the cork.

Wine doesn't have a wire.

Poking a hole in it and pushing the cork in is the best thing to do.

hahah this is too funny,
usually i just pus the cork to the inside of the bottle. IT doesnt really affect it in any way :)
