How can I prevent my cd-rom from spinning up when I open Windows Explorer?

besides taking the cd out 😛

I like to leave my cd's in there and it spins up the first time I use Windows Explorer, IE, My Comp, etc...

is there a way to disable that?
Windows XP btw...

Hehe I was going to say that. Well, you could just leave Win Explorer open and not close it down or let it be the first thing to run after startup(ie. put in startup menu). This way it doesn't do it all the time, just once.

Hehe Or you could disable the cdrom so that it's not in the devices but you'll have to do that over and over again.

I agree it is aggravating when you only want to access files or directories on the HDD and it tries to access and display the CD contents and tehn it takes forever, particularly with CDs that it may not access as easily like a CD-RW

Get a large storage drive (5400RPM 80GB for instance) and rip all your CDs (even copy protected even without a good CD reader) then disable your real CD-ROM & use Daemon-Tools. Enable it when you need to make another CD Image 🙂

Try some of the customizations. The default virtual drive name is probably already blacklisted by the game insudtry in the latest version.
