Hi all. Heres my situation. My son (10yrs old) and I both have the slim PS2. We share games and several of them he scratched up, tried a few scratch removers but they never really work, so sometimes the games will play or sometime it gets errors. For the hell of it I tried burning a backup and it appears to have worked but of course they wont play. I am not a pirate, I make plenty of $$$ so I can buy my games, I just want to be able to play these fubarded games and dont want to mod mine or my son's PS2. Is there any SW based option thats compatible with the slim PS2? Thanks.

IIRC there are usb based mod chips for the ps2.. actually I'm sure of it cuz I've seen them in action.

Offhand, I don't think it's possible.

do Xbox's play 'backedup' games?

No, but you can softmod them (don't need to open the case or solder anything) to enable that. Or you can proper-mod it and just load the games on the HD. No scratch worries there. ;)

You can use a fliptop and/or card method. Check the modchip sites. No soldering but it does require a bit of modding to the machine, I do believe.

XBOXs can be modded with software only. Splinter Cell, Mech Assualt, or 007AUF and an exploited gamesave and you can have it modded in under 10 minutes.

The USB mod on PS2 do require soldering one wire at 2 points. At least they did 2 years ago when I did mine.

why don't you want to mod them? are they not available for the slim ps2?
I modded my ps2, never regretted it. It was the first time I soldered anything in my life, so it took about a whole day.. but it's been working fine for that last few years. It's pretty cheap nowadays.

1) Go to Blockbuster
2) Rent the same game
3) Return the scratched one
4) Blame it on the last guy that rented it
5) ...
6) Profit?

Hehehe. I havent rented a game since the height of the first playstaion. I'm just looking for a quick easy solution, sorta like the first gen PLaystation swap trick.

If you choose not to mod you may want to start shopping at EB Games. They offer replacement on scratched games at a cost.

My five year old had his one week old game that he got for his birthday ruined by his younger brother. It was months before we bought another copy and we endured several breakdowns about how his brother was stupid for ruining his game.

I think game publishers should offer a cheap replacement option say $5-$10 in cases where we can return the disc to them.

The people at PS2NFO.com will probably be able to give you more information on HDAdvance and similar programs.
