how can i password my porn folder?

When we used to play Quake2 back in HS, we'd use a program called Magic Folders to hide the program directories.

Well...I don't know any programs but...

Right click on your folder and choose Properties. Then click on Customize. And then change the icon to the "blank" icon (it should be somewhere near the beginning of the icon selection) Afterwards, rename the title " ". The way you create that "character" is by holding down Alt and press 0 1 6 0 (in that order). You should end up with a blank space and it will be acceptable as a name. Afterwards...just hide the folder somewhere desktop where nobody will notice it! Make sure to make everything in the folder "hidden" if you don't want people to search for it!

You could plant the folder in some strange, unknown directory where no one would normally ever venture, then make the folder hidden. You just have to type the folder location into the address bar and don't let anyone find out.

you could try zipping up the folder with the compressed zip folder feature in windows and putting a password on the zip file, then set it to encrypt the file names. actually i dunno if it can do all that, but you can do that with winrar.

You could also try a program like Truecrypt at Sourceforge.net.

How come windows 98/me could encrypt folders and xp cant? I think they had to be zip folders or somthing but i could still put passwords on them!

Steganos Security Suite - Allows you to create a password protected folder and drive. Also includes a bunch of other tools that will remove traces on the PC.

The smart thing to do is to put that folder on a flash memory device and take it with you. You can also encrypt it there if you wish. Why leave anything incriminating on a computer?

No, neither GnuPG or PGP are the same as truecrypt. Truecrypt is kind of nice though.

GPG/PGP will encrypt the files using your key and a passphrase (set a good one!). Keep the key on removable media and you're set.

Rename your porn as .dll files and hide them in your program files folders.

Windows Private Folder if you can find a copy floating around since they pulled the download.

Remove the desktop icon and you can still navigate to it from your start menu and "open" dialogues.

If not, just use file encryption in XP...

truecrypt, nested hidden volumes, triple encryption on each level. that should deal with the casual snooping nicely
