how can i paint aluminum glossy gunmetal?

i want to take a standard plain aluminum box and paint it glossy gunmetal so it's quite a bit darker, shiny, and smooth. how would I go about doing this?

Not sure if it would work on aluminium but your local gun dealer should stock a realtively cheap gun blue dye/paint substance.
If you want the real deal, call up a gun refinishing company and ask if they'll accept your box. No experience with this company but they might be able to help you out.

Answer: Yes. Providing a profile (roughing the surface) can be achieved, any of our products are suitable for aluminum. The water-based acrylic Painter's Touch brush products are our best recommendation. You can also use 8781 Aluminum Primer.

Poly-Fiber

Basically you will need to sand the surface and clean it. A primer should be used. If you are going for a very smooth finish, use two colors of primer and sand after spraying them.

what kind of place would I go to to get something anodized? Is that the right term?

Let your fingers do the walking. Try looking it up in the yellow pages under metal finishing. You might also check with speed shops or motorcycle shops around you, and they might know of a local anodizer.
