READ AND LEARN

if you have to ask how you shouldnt be doing it.
you need to learn for yourself.

I would first locate the cmos jumper, if your board won't reboot after changing settings. You can just move the jumper over one position for a few seconds then return to original position with power supply unplugged to reset the bios if system won't post. For settings, try these: cpu fsb 250; memory: either 333 or 5:4, whichever is available; cpu voltage: 1.575 or 1.6 max. Memory voltage may not have to be raised. Check the cpu temp at the default settings for reference (in the "pc health" or similar section of the bios). When you overclock, the cpu temp shouldn't rise more than 3-5 degrees celcius from the default setting.

Couple of things... #1 The last time that I checked, a forum was any place where an individual even noobs could post a question and receive straight forward, and legit answers to there queries devoid of money and/or consulting fees... for some individuals in this forum who feel that they are better then somebody and feel that they should put down another individual who doesn't know as much as them really need to be socked in the mouth. #2 Everyone should be on to help others no matter how much everyone knows or didn't know and anyone else who wants to be derogatory can go to hell and never come back to this forum. #3 Apple's... suck to put it bluntly.

Anandtech is a joke when it comes to helping people out with overclocking to be honest. Most of the threads I have seen here are rants of some shape or fashion; without any basis of fact.
_______

xtremepnoy if you really would like to learn about overclocking I would ask this same question on Ocforums. Unlike here they wont say "just google it" :| Plus its a common know fact that the best OCers in the world are not found here but on OCF, XS and XR.

Instead of asking such a broad question, looking for exact directions. Maybe, doing some research (google->overclocking) and then asking more specific questions would come across better.

And for a first time poster yourself, I find it funny telling everyone not to come back to this forum. Either you're the OP or someone w/out the balls to post w/ their original profile.

I would first suggest learning to take care of your computer without extremely overclocking it to render ALL CAPS faster. Overclocking is not to be taken lightly as an inexperienced, overenthuiastic person can easily kill most major components in their system. And as Sentential stated, Anandtech are more general forums. You can get much more experienced, coaching advice from some more specialized forums on the internet.

STFU. if you dont like it, leave. hell dont even join!

apples do not suck. I love my amd64 just as much as anyone else but apple's OSX caching is GREAT as well as for professional GFX work. Just cause they suck at games dosent mean you should generalize.

With all due respect, do you think the response to his question would have been any more positive in any of those forums? Posting such a general question, in all caps, is a good way to get flamed. I wouldn't encourage him to ask the very same question anywhere. It shows poor forum etiquette.

Furthermore, there is a fairly nice, generic sticky in this forum about overclocking one's CPU, and a forum search should yield plenty of results regarding the overclocking of 3 ghz Prescotts. Only one person here said GOOGLE IT, and that's the first time I've seen that happen in here.

I've found plenty of experienced OCers in this forum. Information in this forum helped me configure a nice little budget OC rig that got a Palermo 2800+ from 1.6 ghz to 2.32 ghz on stock vcore with stock cooling. Just because every other post here isn't in regards to adventures in phase change overclocking or what not doesn't make the forum bad. Most of the people here are concerned with overclocking on air, which is usually simpler and cheaper. Maybe that doesn't make the regulars here the "world's best overclockers". I could care less. Anandtech regulars have provided myself, and many others, with the knowledge to squeeze a little extra performance out of machines built from commonly-available parts(including Prescotts), and that's why I read and post here.

If the OP would simply do us all a favor and make a reasonably polite and well-ordered request for information, he'll get some, though the usual "lolol get a A64" responses will probably pop up as well. Wait 'til Intel launches some Yonah-based(or derived) desktop CPUs, and the shoe may well be on the other foot.

Don't adjust voltage first... adjust the speed first, when it becomes unstable, THEN increase the voltage a bit.

Well if you ask me the easiest way to overclock my computer is to use CPUGEN i like it cuz it automatically adjusts all the voltages. Only thing is that you need an NFORCE motherboard

As a matter of fact....YES. Ive helped dozens of people like him on OCF. The mods there keep a tight grip on flaming and other nastiness. No one with the exception of maybe 1 or 2 people would say such. In addition most guys pull the person aside in chat and walk em thru it

with an attitude like that, why do you bother posting here, if you believe this place is so inferior? I've seen better overclocks here than at PCper.com, but the people there are just as helpful. Actually, most of the time the reverse from what you say is true. Generally the best OC'ers are the most arrogant, because Oc'ing is their life. They think it makes their epenis bigger or something to have a little more mhz than the next guy.
