Hello All,
Thanks for looking in...I have been having some problems lately trying to get some tv shows onto DVD.

Well I found a program that convetts .AVI files directy to DVD format which I then put into Nero and burn on a DVD...so far it has worked great up until now.

For what ever reason the program that I have used to convert the files to DVD made the .VOB files like 100 mb's too big to fit on a DVD in nero...

I have been trying to get it to over burn but can't get it to work no matter what I do...I was using nero 6.3.1.1...

On my nero the limit is like 4.5 gb and the compulation that I am trying to burn is like 4.6 gb, is this too big to fit on a disc ?

Thanks in advance

Likely it's just too big.

What program are you using?

I am looking for exactly what you have been using.

Well here is the deal, I have a bunch of tv shows that are .AVI files...I have searched hi and low for a simple program that will convert to be able to be eventually burned onto a DVD player. I finally got this program called WINAVI 5.5....all you have to do is

1. select the files
2. select how many dvds you want the files to span across ( so I select 12 episodes == 1 disc)

3. The program then automatically adjusts the bitrate and all that so you don't have to tinker around with it...when it is done it has all the episodes in .VOB format and ready to burn on to DVD...

The program is a bit buggy for some reason...it has the capability to burn DVD's as well once it is finished converting but for some reason it never works with my DVD writer which is a plextor px-708a...

and this is my problem because I set it to be == to one DVD (4.3 GB) and when it is done the folder that the files are in are 4.38 GB

but once I go to nero and drop the files into the VIDEO_TS folder the damn thing some how just goes to 4.6 GB...

DAMN NERO :)

So I am stuck because nero is some how messing this process up and won't let me adjust anything

Have you tried burning it to Nero's IMAGE DRIVE then shrinking it down (from the image) with DVDShrink.......OR if you have the files anyway use DVDShrink in OPEN FILES mode?

By the way a standard blank DVDR (+ or -) is 4.7gig

Thanks for the post...well I have tried to open the files in DVD shrink like you said prior to reading your post...I recieved an error basically stating that the files were not valid...I fired up PowerDVD and the files apear to play fine...so I don't know why DVD shrink freaks out at them...I think I did try to make an image of the files once...and it made a huge image on the harddrive...I am talking like 9 Gigs...I think I messed something up...that might be something I will try again down the road... I have installed and uninstalled so many programs to get this to work I am sh!tting up my C:\ drive :0 so I am going to be formatting sometime real soon

Thanks I will try some other possibilities

After re-reading your first post a few questions need to be asked.

Are the files mpeg2 or vob?
Do you get audio?
If .vob what is the size of each .vob?
Do you have the corresponding .ifo's and the DVD's structure?
What did you use to author the DVD?
You HAVE authored your DVD haven't you?

Compliant files DO NOT MAKE A COMPLIANT DVD (sorry for shouting but some people eh?).

Software DVD players will happily play mpeg2 or vobs without the DVD file structure in FILE mode............DVD Shrink requires the file structure to open the files.

Correct. Well when I want to covert a captured file into dvd video I use Ulead's Movie Factory.
Fully functional and easy to use, allows you to convert avi or mpeg files into dvd video.
Then you can burn it, that way you won't need Nero too. Cool program.

DVD FAB helped me in the past also.
