How can I make JPGs smaller?

I scanned some pictures in, and they came out as like 1900x1200 resolution, and I'd like to make them smaller, like say 400x300 or something of that nature. What's the best way to do it?

Do you have Photoshop?

Use an image editting program. (Didn't anything come with your scanner?) Check cnet or zdnet for some shareware you can download and try out.

I use the program all the time. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles of photoshop, but its like 100 times smaller, cheaper, and faster : ) (and does like 98% of the things photoshop does)

Another vote for Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro. Photoshop has some really nice features, but PSP is really great for getting things done fast and nice.

I do it all the time using HiJaak Pro 5's resize function. I do it in pixels . . . like from 1600 x 1200 down to 640 x 480 for e-mail use.

The other thing you can do is SAVE AS with any program that doies JPGs. Each iteration of SAVE AS further compresses and degrades the photo.

Vote for Paint Shop Pro. Easy to use and quick. Not as small as it used to be though....I just downloaded version 7 at a wopping 32mb.

Is there a major difference between PSP6 and PSP7? I have PSP6 but I don't know if it's worth upgrading. I don't know if I'll upgrade to Photoshop 6 from 5.5 but it depends on price..

Another vote for Paintshop Pro here for serious editing.
I also REALLY like Microsoft's Picture It!

However, there is this little program that I just couldn't live without.

It's called ScreenPrint Gold.

Not only does it resize images effortlessly, it makes changing file types a snap (like Corky describes).

It does a few other things like cropping, flipping, rotating, brightness, contrast, etc.

To top it off, it re-enables your "Print Screen" button!
You can "Print screen" your entire screen, active window, or user-defined area. Then print it, or save it to file. It's great for printing those little "pop-up" message windows, "settings" windows, etc.

It also has a delay timer and an interval timer too, so that you can get screenshots of your favorite game.

Seriously, I have at least a half dozen image-editing programs, and a half dozen dedicated photo-editing programs on my computer, and I just keep coming back to SreenPrint to do resizing and converting.
