First off this is just for personal use so no talk about best practices
I lost my domain controller the other day (no back ups) so I had to do a new install of AD and all the other services I had. I used the same domain name that I originally had but the problem is that just because I used the same domain name doesn't mean all my computers will see the new DC and say, "hey I was part of that domain, remember me?".
So now I have to rejoin all the computers to the new domain, my question is how can I keep the existing system from creating new profiles (I've created the same users as I had before as well)?
For instance, lets say I had one user called ivwshane, if I recreate that user on the new DC and then rejoin that system to new domain I'll end up with a new user profile and a new user folder, ivwshane.000 instead of just ivwshane, plus any programs I had running in the background or any of the settings I made to the computer will be gone. So how can I restore this?
Thanks!
Edit*
Oh and I hope this makes sense because it's 2am and I'm very tired
