How can I join a domain that I was already apart of?

First off this is just for personal use so no talk about best practices;)

I lost my domain controller the other day (no back ups) so I had to do a new install of AD and all the other services I had. I used the same domain name that I originally had but the problem is that just because I used the same domain name doesn't mean all my computers will see the new DC and say, "hey I was part of that domain, remember me?".

So now I have to rejoin all the computers to the new domain, my question is how can I keep the existing system from creating new profiles (I've created the same users as I had before as well)?

For instance, lets say I had one user called ivwshane, if I recreate that user on the new DC and then rejoin that system to new domain I'll end up with a new user profile and a new user folder, ivwshane.000 instead of just ivwshane, plus any programs I had running in the background or any of the settings I made to the computer will be gone. So how can I restore this?

Thanks!

Edit*
Oh and I hope this makes sense because it's 2am and I'm very tired:p

Since you didnt back up your server/computer name DB I think you have to create all new accts for each computer on the network.

The existing accounts will still be there... you'll just have to go in and take ownership of their "my documents" and all that and copy it over into their new folder.

you'll end up with with a bunch of "Username" and "Username.000" folders in your documents and settings but the data won't get lost.

That's what I've done for one of the systems already but it didn't work quite as well as I had hoped. I got the files just fine but it's the settings I wasn't able to retrieve.

Maybe I'm not doing it right.
