How can I increase one partition to include unallocated space?

I use my raptor 74 for my os and applications only. Was dual booting from xp and vista but was having some problems with vista so I deleted it and everything on that partition. Will get back to vista at a later date. Obviously that partition now becomes unallocated. Problem is, I'm having trouble expanding the only existing partition (with XP and all my other goodies) to take up the unallocated space. Can anyone show me the way?

Also, now that the dual boot thing is eliminated, how can I get rid of the boot up window which gives me the option of selecting vista or an earlier operating system.

boot list should be saved in boot.ini on the root of c:\ or whatever the primary drive is...

as far as expanding partitions I have no clue, partition magic maybe?

Use GParted LiveCD (free). You can boot to it. Then, you will be able to resize the partition.

It is always a good idea to backup data before manipulating partitions.

I would not recommend expanding the partition with the OS installed on it (active).

Even Acronis' Disk Director would not let me do it.

Just create a new drive (e.g. F:\) and use it for data, or you risk losing your C:\ drive altogether.

There is no need to panic!
It is understandable if you have never done it. But, you can always learn.

You boot to the CD and resize the C drive. While you are doing it, you are booting to a CD, not to the OS on the c drive.
As I said, it is always a good idea to backup your data.
But, resizing the C drive is not a big deal.

Acronid Disk Director 10 allows it.

It would Reboot the computer and do it from part of the program loaded and stored in Memory (so windows is not active).

It can take very long time but it works.

Otherwise, you can create Boot CD with Disk Director (Disk Director has menu entry that can do it for you) and boot from the CD it would run Disk Director from the CD while the HD is passive as boot drive.

Many third party partition/disk mamagement utilities can add adjacent free space to a partition. I use Partition Commander and it works well. You can get legit copies of Partition Commander on eBay for low bucks.
