How can i improve the performance of C&C Generals?

Hi,
Ive noticed that in Large battles, or with several oponents, or on large/complex maps, that C&C Generals begins to stutter a bit. Now ive tweaked the in game setting as much as possbile without sacrificing to much visual quality, and now i am wondering if there is in hidden tweaks or other tweaks i can do.
The AI for oponents/units is more dependant on CPU than VPU, so any CPU optimisations would be welcome as well.

Thanks in advance.

You should consider upgrading your 1800+, or OC it.
Besides, your RAM is PC133, and maybe that´s a bottleneck for the CPU, cos it can´t get 266 Mhz FSB, only 133.
Your video card is great, that's not the problem, I'm sure of that.

there are a lot of patches (up to version 1.6 ir Something like that, I think) so first try patching it.

Can upgrade at the moment. Will upgrade in January though. It`ll OC to XP1900, but it aint worth it.

It runs on a 266mhz FSB, its just the mem at 133mhz. I`ll make a little difference running DDR, but not much.

Have the latest patch, 1.6.

I was going to say add more ram cause it seems to be pretty intensive onscreen during big battles, but I see that you already have 768megs.
I had a 1900+ with 512megs pc2100 ddr and a GF4 Ti4400, and when I was playing I didn't have any problems even during the biggest battles.

I'm not sure what could be the reason of your slowdown, cause you have a good gpu and not a bad cpu. Perhaps it is the pc133 holding you back.
What resolution do you play at? What OS are you playing in?

I play at 1280x1024@max detail. 2D shadows off. Particle detail at 20%.
I use WinXP Home w/ SP1 + All updates.
I was thinking of creating a new logon domain, just for games. Shortcuts to all my games on the desktop. Nothing loaded in background, nothing set to run on startup. No wallpaper, no fancy visual effects, simple cursors, ect; things like that. But im not sure if disableing startup things on that login, via msconfig, would affect my msconfig startup settings in my other logins.

Playing at higher resolution actually increased speed a little.

But considering how glitchy the game is as a whole. It is sort of like asking a learning disabled guy why he can't spell monopotassium phosphate. He is just not going to get any faster...

Good point. So at the moment, its as fast as its going to get?
Looks like i`ll have to wait till my upgrade for large scale battles in Generals...
