How can I have two separate backgrounds?

Currently I can't set two separate desktop backgrounds for my dual monitors... can someone tell me how to do this, or even sent one background that spans across them both? Thanks!!

Haven't done dual monitors in a while, but back then I stitched two wallpapers together in photoshop and set that as the background, and it spanned across both.

even if I merged two pictures it wouldnt work. If I set one wallpaper it automatically sets the other desktop to the same picture. So I have two identical monitor backgrounds.....

Just make one big desktop image as others have said.. why bother with an application unless you want really specific shit?

Not if you tile the desktop.

Beat me to it. I used to do the same thing but forgot which one of the 3 it was.

On an unrelated note, I'm going to have to retile my bathroom soon. Not looking forward to that.

I bet that sucks, especially if you have to cut matching pieces for tight spots.. bummer.

I don't know how well those are going to turn out considering I have a buddy coming over to help and I'm paying him in beer.

BTW, 2 points to whoever gets the not so subtle connection between Platypus' first quote in this nest and my first quote in the nest.

Beer favors are the best.. I'm pretty sure many millions of ridiculous chores were accomplished with this coercion. The type of beer you purchase is very important in these situations though.

This is what I do. My primary screen is 1280x1024, the secondary is 1440x900, so I like having dirrent wallpaper on both screens (without running software in the background).

Kinda stupid that XP can't do this natively. Can Vista?

I managed to eek by on having him help me paint my room with Bud Light. This might require something considerably better.

Fixed

As others have said, with nVidia cards you can do this using nView under Windows/XP very easily. Unfortunately, nView under VISTA does not allow for different backgrounds on the two displays (yet?)
