How can I get rid of static electricity???

Dryer sheets did wonders for my clothes but now I have this new couch that seems to really build up the zap!! Every time I touch my laptop I get a zap its killing me!! Is there anything I can do to prevent it?
 
i think there are some anti-static sprays. i dunno how safe they are/how you could get your hands on them though
