how can i get around this stupid IT policy?

so, since youre a 'real engineer' you must do all your real work on a unix workstation... fine. You don't check email that often (once a day) and all your windows workstation is for is to check email... than means you must have to unlock your workstation a couple times a day... thats something that only takes a few seconds to do. what's the big deal? If youre spending that much time watching your screen saver to the point it irritates you like that, then you must not be getting so much real enginnering work done these days.
