the one im using right now i downloaded VIA torrent but id prefer just to have an official copy (even though the one i downloaded was from MSDN). I hate having to use my vista DVD that doesnt have SP1 on it everytime i reinstall. Im 90% sure the cd i used this time is fine but id feel better if i was 100% sure.

do people sell thier OEM cd's on here.

i think MS charges 20 bucks if you want to order the cd's through them

how do i do that?

and is that the exact same thing as having the real dvd?

Absolutely the same as having the real DVD.

Only thing is, I've only done it with XP. But there are a lot of guides, just search slipstream sp1 with vista x64, and you'll get lots of good information.

i think i did. this is the name of the torrent i downloaded. 64-bit Windows Vista with SP1 x64 Edition MSDN DVD ISO

im just worried that there might be something wrong with it, maybe a 1% chance.
it says this in the download HASH VALUE:
File Name: en_windows_vista_with_service_pack_1_x64_dvd_x14-29595.iso
SHA1: bdadc46a263a7bf67eb38609770e4fdbd05247cb
Size: 3.66 GB (3,930,677,248 Bytes)

how do i check the images hash code?

Vista DVD does not favor slipstreaming as much as XP CD did.

It is currently impossible to slipstream SP1 into Vista and make it identical to an original Vista SP1 DVD.
The differences may be minor. But, they are there.

How would I install this DVD, if I have retail upgrade Vista Home Basic keys?
Do I need to do the double-install tango?

if you have upgrade keys they will not work on full version

I thought that the install media between Retail Full and Retail Upgrade was the same, and the only difference was the keys. No?

think about it, you paid for an upgrade version which is cheaper than the full version. why would Microsoft allow you to use that key on a full version losing money in the process? one thing i did find is that there is way to do it Vista upgrade workaround revealed read that and you will see microsofts view on this

As far as I've seen, most Vista DVDs will allow Full installs, Upgrade installs, Retail Key installs, OEM (generic) Key installs, and will install any version (Home Basic to Ultimate) of Vista.

With the current code in Vista RTM and, apparently, in Vista SP1, Microsoft seems to have no way to determine if an upgrade actually took place, nor if the owner had a license or even a CD for a previous version of Windows. A similar situation exists with Volume Licensed versions of XP. Volume Licenses are only for upgrades, but will install onto bare hard drives. Microsoft relies on User honesty and corporate audits to enforce the license terms.

From my understanding you can't actually slipstream SP1 into Vista because of the stack and kernel improvements. Their solution is to install both on a PC and them using something like ImageX to compact it down again into a deployable format.
