How can I fix my sink?

My bathroom sink has a drain stop where you pull up the metal thing in the middle to close off the drain (I'm sure it has a name). It is loose and won't stay closed, it just falls back down on its own. Is there any way to fix these without taking the whole thing a part?

A lot of different styles of this, one of the most common has a piece of metal bent like a "v" in the back. The "v" is adjustable up or down the metal stem from that knob you pull up. There will be another metal stem sticking out the very back of the top piece of the drain coming from the sink. If not a "v", somehow that's connected to the stem in the back; and it should be adjustable.

the rod you pull up and down on is connected to another rod on the drain down tube there should be a nut type metal or plastic thing on the back of the drain that has a rod going into it. I'm betting that its loose try a couple of turns on it but dont overtighten as you can break it.

If its tight than its worn out and you will need to replace the whole drain or maybe if your lucky find some new plastic washers (they range from $7 and up for the complete unit they are called many things but its a tailpiece for a vanity sink)

Concur. This is the solution I was thinking of.

Regardless, take a look under yur sink and learn how it works. It's pretty simple really. Understanding your sink can save you on future plumbing bills.

Do NOT touch that sink!! Call a Union Plumber to fix it.

(it's just about the equivalent of calling tech support when all you need is a re-boot) 😀

Most likely, the plastic nut that holds the rod to the pipe is loose...
