on my main computer i managed to screw up my connection to the internet.
i got sick of the IP changing, so i decided to give the machine a DHCP Reservation at the firewall/router. (watchguard x10e) at the same time, i changed the port forwarding configuration to forward the ports i use for torrents to the new IP. (they didnt match my old IP either, but they HAVE worked in the past.)
after setting all of this, finalizing it, i ipconfig /release, ipconfig /renew'ed my main computer. and now it can't see the internet beyond the firewall.
I figured i must have fucked something up in the port forwarding rules, so i deleted all rules that pertain to my IP. no dice.
I then thought the DHCP reservation crap simply doesnt work, so i deleted the reservation and /release renewed again. still no dice.
i'm rather at a loss as to what to do now. i'm gonna try setting a DHCP reservation to a completely new IP.. i honestly don't get why it isnt working.
EDIT:
never mind. setting it back to the old address fixes it.
i dont understand this bullshit.
for further stupidity, i added new rules for my bittorrent forwarding, and it still works.
maybe i should have tried rebooting while i was set to the IP that wasnt working. :/
