I want to purchase a firearm but I am having a hard time determining if it is legal or not in my state. I live in NY, and it's one of the few whacko anti gun states that still have that "assault weapon" ban in place, which was on a federal level at one point I guess and expired in 2004. It makes guns illegal if they have such deadly features as a pistol grip and flash supressor. But reading the summary of the law from the nra.org web site for my state I still cant determine if this gun I want is legal...

It seems to have only 1 illegal feature, which is the detatchable magazine, and the law seems to say it must have >= 2 features to be illegal to buy. The thing that kind of confuses me though is this gun's receiver is based on the AK47, so does that make it illegal because of that? Who do I ask about this kinda stuff? Maybe just ask the guys at my local police station?
