I have a client that doesn't know if he owns his domain or not. A third party is hosting his website which is nothing more than an information page at this point. he may want to expand the site in the future. I told him that he needed to make sure he owned the domain name and to also consider hosting the site himself. The people who are hosting it at present are giving him the runaround on the question as to who owns the domain. There is no way in h*ll they could get away with cybersquating as there can be absoluely no doubt as to who the name refers to but still, avoiding a legal battle is prudent.

The first thing we have to do is determine beyond a doubt, who owns the domain. I thought whois would say but I was wrong.

Don't you think that this is the answer to your question?

Yea, but I'd still like proof.

Proof as in a document?? I think Jack is right and you've got an answer. There should have been a hosting agreement signed in ADVANCE specifying the responsibilities of the host and who "owns" the domain.
