How can I determine MSSQL version remotely ?

I need a way to remotely detemine the build versions of approx. 250 SQL servers. I would like to script this. I have a line by line of the machines IP addresses. Is there a way to probe a machine running SQL 2000 for the current build number ?

Enterprise manager might be able to do this...

You run 250 SQL Servers?!? Ouch! The next few days are going to royally suck for you....

I'm lucky to only have one server in my lab running SQL Server 2000. The rest are all running either SQL Server 7 or DB2.

Ok I am so stupid

REG QUERY = SQL version :)

BTW...we arent going all the way to SP3, just patching our SP2's . I dont trust SP3 yet.

Related: SP3 does slow down your "Start/Shutdown/Restart" time. Sometimes, it just hangs...for two or three minutes, then it restarts.

another good reason why I wont take these boxes to SP3 :)

But I wonder...are you talking about W2K SP3 or SQL 2K SP3 ?

Uh, just the plain old SP3 for W2K....the Average Joe User Download Patch...for regular Joe's like me. :)
