85f? AAAHHHAhaHAhAHHAHAHAHAhAHHAhAhAhAAHAHAHHA...
Exactly what I was thinking. Call me when you go from 100+ in the summer to -5 with a wind chill of -20 in the winter.

There is no light coming through the windows, the blinds completely cover it.

And those telling to open windows... It really doesn't help when it is 112 F outside. Instead of a window fan I might as well just leave a hot blow dryer on in the room.

But really, thanks for the advice. Awhile ago I got a new filter for the AC that is supposed to allow more air flow. But it still doesn't flow good out of the vent in my room. Maybe I'll try to attach some sort of fan to the vent.

Try this.... get a small towel and dunk it in cold water.. then wrap it around your neck. this usually helps.

get some curtains or completely block off the window with a heavy blanket.. this will help much more than the blinds... also turn off all electronics that you're not using... (ie don't leave the TV on all the time, computer, etc.)

Freon just does not dissappear. If you need a recharge the you have a leak.

That's bad??? I wish it was only 85F here. It got up to 95F today according to Yahoo Weather, but I read 110F on a thermometer on the outside of my house at noon (in direct sunlight). We have a lot of humidty here too. The dry air of AZ is much more comfy IMHO; I went there in June-July a few years ago.

In the winter we get down to 0-10F sometimes.

Right. You shouldn't have to recharge your freon....if you do indeed need a recharge, then you need to fix the leak first.

if you don't have a window AC, maybe think about having separate intake/exhaust fans like in a computer case. Obviously the intake should not be the 112 degree AZ heat outside. A single fan in the room does nothing but circulate hot air.

it was 109F in phoenix yesterday. Put a blanket over any windows that get a lot of light. Turn off your computers when not in use. Turn off all tvs and radios when not in sure. Turn off all lights when not in use. If your computer is on, don't have it running 100% cpu apps unless necessary.

If you live in Arizona, but not the Valley of the Sun, you have no idea about hot. ;)

A window exhaust fan may help, never though of that.

But yeah, I can shut down my computer all the time. I do webpage design for a job so the computer needs to be running the majority of the time. I have an LCD monitor, not a CRT, so its not generating a ton of heat.

Anyway, I've been closing some vents and but my fan in a more 'strategical' positon so it's cooling down a bit.

My guess is computers...in a smallish room you don't need all that many to heat it up. When I moved out of my apartment at school in May, up till that day it was always hot as hell in my bedroom. The day before I moved out I put my desktop and my firewall system in my car...and the room was MUCH cooler, even though it was still hot outside. It does indeed make a big difference. But a little window AC unit might be good too if you need your system on, and they are pretty cheap for how much they help. Cold showers also seem to make a difference.

Irrelevant note based off of "stop killing kittens": Sex in a hot room SUCKS...well, the sex is fine...and then afterwords you sit there dying from heat stroke ;)
