How can I cool down my apartment room?

I live in an apartment (in Phoenix, AZ) with 3 other guys. The apartment itself (living room area, ect) isn't that hot. But in our room the heat just builds up. There is one AC vent in the room but it hardly blows enough air out, but the air is cold. It just doesn't have any affect on the room temp.

I have a fan to move the air around in the room a bit, but it doesn't work too well and the temp just keeps rising throughout the day. Plus our computers dont help the matter much, constantly putting out heat. But the computers alone aren't the problem, They've been off for days at a time and room still gets too warm.

The only thing I have thought of is some sort of fan attachment I could get to put on the AC vent to get it to push more cold air into the room but I have no clue how I would rig something like that up.

I'm open to any suggestions.

Thanks.

Can you get an extra AC unit for the room? Even a $60 5000 BTU model from Walmart would probably help.

If your windows have blinds or curtains, make sure the ones directly facing the sun are closed. All that light through the windows will heat your place like a greenhouse.

1) As mentioned above, block out incoming sunlight with blinds or shades.

2) Replace standard incandescent light bulbs with compact flourescent bulbs. They give off much less heat, and just screw right in where the old bulbs came out of. Something like this here: http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=cfls.pr_cfls

3) Open windows at night if outside temperature is cool, and blow a fan in through the window. I don't care if it gets down to 50 F at night, cool that place down while you can.

4) Put in a booster fan like this if you want. http://www.espenergy.com/booster_fan.htm I have one. It sense the temp change and only comes on when the AC (or heat) runs.

5) Eat popsicles.

6) Stop killing kittens.

If your AC is more than 3 years old, have it serviced. Good chance that a freon recharge will make a huge improvement...

I agree with comradeflynn. Low air flow and cood air coming out of the vent sound like a clogged A coil. and or air filter. I'd have the A/C serviced.

carpet... get rid of it. Our tiles throughout the bottom floor of our house is all tile and it helps a great deal. Don't even need A/C when it's 90F+ out. Feels like 75F or so indoors.
