if my inspection sticker expires in Sept, can i bring my car in Aug and just have the emmissions done? that way, if it fails i have over a month to fix it?

What state are you in?
Usually it's best to test early, giving you more time if you fail.

Take your car into a smog check station. They will be happy to take your money no matter what time of the year it is. It isn't going to same you any money though. If your car doesn't pass you are still going to make the necessary repairs.

just be careful and make sure they don't pull your car apart before they test it and make it fail intentionally. they just did that to my dad.

they shouldn't. the state just won't reissue you another sticker when you try to renew your registration if you don't fix the problem.

If you get a renewal notice where live, you should be able to bring that notice to the testing station as soon as you receive it, and get the car tested.

When we did emissions testing here, they allowed up to 2 free retests. After the third failed test, each additional test was about $8. I know you had at least a month, probably closer to two months, to get the car fixed.
