How can I change the modem IRQ in XP pro

for some reason it keeps wanting to use irq 17, I need it to use 5 or lower. I tried assigning it in the bios and it still wont take it.

any ideas?

unless you turn off ACPI by installing as a standard pc then it's not really possible.
why do you specifically want the modem to use an irq of 5 or lower?

😱 WinXP tends to override / ignore the BIOS settings and it doesn't allow as much flexability as Win9x either. I've tried quite a few things but it tends to be a matter of having to switch the card thru the diff PCI slots as this can often mean they get assigned a diff IRQ. Otherwise you may be able to force it thru the card (like a jumper) but this is unlikely too. If WinXP has the 'dusable auto settings' greyed out then there is only one option for this device. In Win98 you could still change the IRQ even forcing it in to a conflicted IRQ, this could then show you the possible combinations with all your cards and by juggling them around you could very often use the IRQ you wanted. But sadly not with WinXP. Best of luck and let me know if youhave any luck.

winfax tech support won't help me unless the modem is installed to their specs
com4 or lower and irq5 or lower.

I'l try switching the pci slots around. this really pisses me off

EDIT: I fixed it. didn't change the irq but I got winfax working, which was the reason for this mess. turns out it's database had goteten corrupted. so even though I reinstalled, I was trying to use the old data. and I still had my probs. a full uninstall then clean reinstall fixed it.

IRQ really shouldn't back a difference to the tech support ppl...lie to them and say it's configured per their specs.

I will bet they can get you running or wouldn't be able even if you had everything to specs.

Perhaps post your config to Tech Support here and see if someone else had the same hang ups.
