Yep, upper-level sociology classes are definitely more interesting.
Start with some of the works from classical sociologists like Tönnies, Weber, Simmel and Durkheim regarding urbanization. Next, comparatively analyze topics such as "ethnicity and military entrance examinations". One may even arrive at the conclusion that a higher percentage of whites than blacks were rejected from military service during the Vietnam conflict.
Then conduct statistical analysis of migration patterns from the "Rust Belt" to the "Bible Belt" for certain years/decades. Finally, wrap the day up by comparing the increasing prison population, new prison construction, the 'War on Drugs', and economic revitalization of those communities surrounding the new prisons.
Sociology is awesome! The problem is that it doesn't pay sh!t unless one has a position in government or academia.
