Why are you so afraid of people WITH guns then? Seems like you are the one walking around in FEAR. If you are not afraid of people having guns illegally where you live and using them against you. Why would you be afraid of people owning them lawfully?

Why are you such a pussy?

Fear motivates owning a gun... Fear of Government or bad guys or what ever... Fear is what is driving this issue.
I lived in Ireland in '80 and '81 and although there was violence up North I never saw a Garda with a gun or even a person lock their front door... In Bishopstown, Cork where I lived Gypsies would roam about with their horses and stuff but no one worried about them breaking in... I often awoke with a few of their spotted white horsey eating my grass... I even adopted one of their dogs... There just was not very much fear there... and no one owned a hand gun...

Perhaps you are projecting your own fears onto me. Fear is certainly not a factor for me.

This is a good read on the irrationality of people's fear of guns.: http://www.vcdl.org/new/raging.htm

Perhaps if I were anti-hand gun ownership that link might be of some benefit.
I say 'Fear' was the motivator, but in any case, I probably should narrow it to hand guns. I simply think fear is a motivator for people who buy and hold hand guns. Fear of what ever they are a feared of. I think even folks who like to collect guns there is an element of fear coupled with historic and other reasons as well...

I personally care less who buys and holds guns. But, perhaps those in this country who are felons and those who may harm themselves - assuming that criteria can be met by some means prior to the purchase of the hand guns - might be excluded from that right to hold weapons among which are hand guns.

I think fear of guns or, rather, folks owning guns in general might be neurotic behavior. I also suppose what ever fear motivates the holding of guns might be neurotic too or it may be reality in this country and quite normal to desire adequate defense against what potential may exist to necessitate that desire.

All in all, I think it is very difficult to label this issue one way or another as exclusively this or that.. but do think Fear is among the motivators both ways to at least some degree. I wouldn't expect folks to agree with this either... Folks only are aware of what they are aware of.

Hello, im really curious how some Christians can actually support people owning guns. The 2 concepts seem so fundamentally opposed to each other since Christian thinking is very much opposed to violence (eg turn your other cheek), yet some American Christians argue so fervently in support of the right to own guns? When they speak of Jesus its all about love and compassion, yet when they speak of guns they turn into a completly different person?? How is this thinking reconciled in their minds?

Just curious cause i'm taken aback by how people i thought were very peaceful turn militant when they speak of gun control.

if you think christians should be against guns and violence, perhaps you should go reread the entire old testament of the christian bible. Yahweh was infact almost genocidal toward the non-jews.

This may have been said already, but w/e -

"Let He who hath not a sword, sell his cloak and buy one."
^ Red Letters - can't remember book, chapter or verse (I'm rusty, I know), but it's in there.
