How big of generator to buy...

I'm trying to figure out how much of a generator I need to run some devices in my home, home theater, fridge, etc...

When I used this:

Kill a WAtt

on my home theater....it was running slightly under 500 watts. My generator I have is 1200 rated load, 1500w peak.

I'm trying to figure out why that wouldnt work, and if I need to calculate, amps, etc....to figure this out....

Good question. Get a generator big enough to run the lights, your modem/router and a laptop...and the fridge, probably.
