I don't use wide screen effect anyway.
i know its good for spreadsheets and all but generally my type of usage don't require this
I fit into this category as well. Also alot of people just bought a nice 19" LCD not too long ago and it's not worth anything now to sell, and it works fine, so why spend the money for something bigger just because? I think right now the majority of PC users have a screen in the 17-20" range. You can't use this forum to make the assumption that everyone needs/wants/uses a 24"+ sized screen.
When my current monitor breaks then I'll look at a bigger screen. I don't need it though.
I'm on a 24" and loving it. However, I have to say that 'enough' as in just before 'too much' for me would be 27". I wouldn't mind 3 more inches of screen. Anything over would be overkill, not just in size (desk/viewing), but also in terms of resolution.
24" provides a good immersive experience for gaming, and a lot of real estate for everything else.
30" is of course the absolute best, but you need to lean back to get the optimum relative size.
My 20.1" 1680x1050 is great, but there's an inch or two that's empty around it on my desk!
Using 24" now and would love to go to 30".
I'm using it for 3d work though and a lot of the screen is taken up by menus and toolbars, while a 19" monitor is used to display render output. If I measured the amount of actual viewport space I have on a 24" screen its probably about the same as a 19" monitor.
My preference is either a 24 or 22" wide screen. I use the 24" at work and 22" at home. Going between to two I really do not relize the size difference.
