We are going out to lunch today and the restaurant only serves 1 pound patties for their burgers. I asked last time and they claim they do not have a smaller size. My issue is if i order it i will eat most or all of it and that is what I did last time on top of fries and appetizers. I only need a quarter pound. I am willing to get a third pound but i will not buy anything larger anymore. Occasionally i will break that rule but i do not do it regularly. What about the rest of you?

There are a couple really easy rules when it comes to eating.. just in general.
1) Enjoy eating, but not too much
2) Eat a variety of healthy foods
3) Don't chastise yourself for eating something you like, just don't make it habitual.

I practically never order big/expensive burgers out. That is something I can make equally well at home, better right now with my home grown tomatoes in season. If that's the only thing the restaurant serves, not even non-burger dishes (which seems unlikely, most people [women, children, etc] won't eat a whole 1 lb burger) then why pick that restaurant?

I can never eat more than a half-pounder.
And less if its got massive slab of cheese and bacon and fancy ass pickles and such.

We don't eat burgers out much anymore, but the ones I smash out for the barbecue are 1/3 pound (I weigh them, nerd that I am). This has proven the ideal size for what we do, after some experimentation.

USDA dietary advice ought to be read with the same amount of skepticism as any other dietary advice, imo.

BTW i was totally off, the place we ate at, I did not pick it, has half pounders for lunch, which while not nearly as bad is still way more food than i need in one sitting. but per the USDA i should have 6 oz of meat a day so a half pound burger or even 1/3 means i need to avoid meat the rest of the day.

lol, no that is a lower limit not an upper limit, and you don't necessarily need any meat at all in your diet but then to get enough protein and iron you'll want to watch your diet closer than ever.

I can honestly say that I have never really considered it. We pat our own out here at home, wife has a recipe that is great. Buy the meet, add stuff to it. Going out, I buy whatever looks good. Usually go for the biggest. A regular place we have, has bison that I enjoy too. Kinda a hipster place, but burger is great.

lmao 6 oz per day :D I take in about 4-5oz in ea of 3 meals. Usually get protein from eggs in one other meal and from whey in a fifth meal.

I've been doing sous vide burgers a lot lately. Between 6 to 8 ounces each. They are awesome.

These days the biggest would be a half pound.
Back in my tubbier days, I'd gleefully chomp down a full pound burger and fries.
