i've been using firefox since 0.6 so i havent really gotten screwed over that bad, but does anyone here think its a really reallybad problem, or just one that has been overhyped?

And to answer your question, yes it is horrible. Its so out of hand it's unreal, spyware lately is getting as destructive as many viruses, and harder to remove. People who manage to get one bit of spyware usually manage to have more than 100, its usually people who only use a computer in passing and don't bother to learn the in's and out's of one.

Had it once soon after installing XP. IE's fault. Fixed it with help of HijackThis. Switched to FF. Installed ZA Pro 4.5. Zero malware since.

how big of a problem is it to me ? Not very. I don't actually care if they know my habits anyway - people are too paranoid. So long as they don't have my personal info - that's the only thing I care about. I run adaware once or twice a month anyway since I depend on IE. I haven't been "hijacked" ever.

Not a big problem for me since I use Firefox. An ocassional bit of spyware gets through every now and then, probably when I have to use IE. But I think it's fvcking ridiculous that people should be forced to use a certain browser, OS, or software like Spyware Blaster just to keep the sh!t out. I don't see how Spyware is any different than a virus. It should all be illegal.

Not a very big one, I never get any and I'm not often called upon to remove it from friends'/family's PCs.

not when they're in India and the client is in the US :)

...well, I guess they COULD talk the client through the procedure, but end-users HATE that and would rather have "the IT guy" come over and take care of it.
