How bad do you think my Voodoo3 16mb PCI bogs this computer down?

ok guys here is the system. My second computer ever, still have it. Paid 2,100 for it back in 94 I think. My first computer was out of a dumpster (386) when my family was still really poor and they couldn't afford a computer for me.

So this computer is:

AT&T TCP (YES AT&T made comps ahah)
100mhz Pentium
8mb ram
onboard video (4 meg i think)
1 gig hard drive
integrated 19.2k modem
integrated sound
Windows 95

Ok so I found some free ram for it and beefed it up to 64mb (anything over that locked it up). The HD has been replaced with a 2 gig (the 1 gig WD caviar died).

I installed Windows 98 and the Voodoo 3 pci 16mb video card. Obviously this isn't a gaming computer. But I thought it would help it out. I mean everything looks better even windows but i'm wondering how much slower it is. I'm thinking the PCI card ate up some resources?

-What is your take? Think that Voodoo3 eats CPU cycles?

btw- my computer I game with right now is Celeron 300mhz LOL. My 16mb ASUS card died and I put in a free Voodoo5 64mb 3dFX is strong with my computing

thanks,

3dfx voodoo3 had 2d on par with matrox at the time. It is an excellent card for a Pentium 1 system. Try just installing the drivers and not installing 3dfx tools. 3rd party drivers have also been made after 3dfx' demise, see here.

The Voodoo3 will be better than the onboard, as for using up too many resources I wouldnt worry to much about it. you dont have than many things on your PCI bus that are to intensive.

DO you have ANY money to spend at all? If you have... please spend it...!!!!

and to think some people are being chastised for having a p4 celeron
nice celeron -- wrong speed

all 3dfx cards belong in a museum imho .... I remember buying a voodoo 5/5500 for $5 at a sunday market that was "faulty" -- turns out the noob didn't know about the extra psu connector required to start it..... sold it the next week for $200 -- the card was basically brand new 🙂
