How bad are the Crashes to desktop in Oblivion GOTY and Fallout 3?

I play it daily, including some very long sessions, and I might go for a week with no crashes, then crash three times in a day, but not enough to bother me seriously. It generally runs very smooth (and gorgeous) for me, loads fast, saves fast (and I save a lot!).

My impression from keeping an eye on the Bethesda forums is that they are aware of numerous issues, and have stated that they are working on it, but otherwise it's the usual tight lipped thing without official admission of specific issues.

game hasnt crashed for me on XP Pro. just one time my CPU overheated (80C) and system restarted.

Have had only one desktop crash in FO3 in the 30+ hours playtime I have put into it.

Been running Oblivion and its expansions (plus 100+ mods) for sometime now on 64-bit Vista Home and the only times I had a CTD were during long play sessions (like a few hours).

1 crash with Fallout3 in about 15 hours so far. I dont remember having any crashes with Oblivion.

I'm an unfortunate member of the well-documented "indoors Fallout 3 lockup". It seems to affect only people with quad-core CPUs, and only happens when entering small buildings (like every single damned building in Greyditch). The game locks up completely... sometimes you can alt-tab out and end the process, sometimes you can't.

Shoddy programming.

I'm also very dissatisfied with the game, but that's because of Bethesda's consolized rape of what was a great IP.

I rarely had Oblivion crash. Once every two months at the most.

Fallout 3 crashes to the desktop once an hour, and feezes my system once a day. Despite that I keep trying to play.

Sorry if this is a bit OT, but does Fallout have any stuttering issues that plagued Oblivion (i.e. when Oblivion loaded different areas? Christ, that was f-ing annoying.)

For both games, they were rare enough that I don't remember it too much. Fallout 3, which I'm still playing now, is a bit moody. For 5-6 out of 7 days a week, it only crashes when I exit the game. On 1-2 days, it will crash a bunch of times, or just stop moving. However, it may or may not be crashing for me. Turns out, it will occasionally take 5-10 minutes to load a specific level because it suddenly stops for a while, causing the HDD LED to go off, which leads me to assume that it's frozen. Ever since I started waiting, it hasn't "crashed".

Then again, it depends on your machine.

I've had 2-3 crashes in fallout. Only 1 during gameplay I believe. It cost me about 10 minutes of playtime when it rolled back to the most recent autosave.

My experiences with it have been very good.

Fallout III crashes on average every 2 hours for me due to some Nvidia driver thing. Im on vista x64 with 8800 gtx and I get an error "an [Nvidia display driver] has failed and restarted". Then I have to reboot. lamesauce.

fallout 3 crashes on me once in a while, usually when i'm going in a building or fast travelling. works good otherwise. vista 64

I NEVER crashed in Oblivion. Fallout 3 crashed a few times but only on exit, now even those problems are gone.

I have attributed much of game crashes to Microsoft LIVE. So after I stopped using it, it stopped crashing.

Oblivion and FO 3 never crash for me and i have an older system (see sig) A friend of mine has a newer system build with core2Duo ect and says his FO3 crashes many times. Dunno what causes it.
