We still being fined for non-participation in health care this year?

I've been putting of tax prep due to uncertainty over health legislation.

Curious what happens if you get a sudden illness or accident and have to go to a hospital and end up with 5-6 digit bill? I guess if you have no assets they can put a lien against you would be okay??

Much like last year I assume I'll owe about $15K as I had a similar mix of income. AMT is a bitch.

Got $83 back. Paid $27.05 for turbotax deluxe so only netted $55.95.

Yup. Or you could roll the dice and not pay it.
I might not have to, due to half the family having coverage last year. At least that's been my past experience.

Sometimes defiance comes at a cost, but you have to stand on principle. That's only half the reason though.

I actually hit my deductible last year which means that I dropped $19K out of pocket on premiums and bills. Fuck you, curious george.

Bankruptcy is a fantastic option.

Anyway, my slack tax person hasn't replied to my email. She's probably getting fired after 4/15.

I adjust my withholdings and pre-tax contributions so that I don't give Uncle Sam an interest free loan all year. I usually end up just about even each year, which is where it should be so I can have my money throughout the year instead of waiting for the IRS to give me my money back without interest..
Me too but that was to avoid paying the HC penalty* if I dropped coverage. And my passbook savings account sure earned me some....er....jack shit.

*which may not have helped anyway.

Damned smart ass CPAs. Emailed back and asked about IRAs. I then asked where we were, refund/owing. She replies, "Owe about $16K." WTFBBQ??? 2nd email comes in, "kidding, $5100 refund."

Hoping to keep it to 4 digits this year...I'm probably being overly optimistic.

I haven't filed yet ... but need to file soon ..
I will be owing some money since I refinance my mortgage to a much lowwer rate and paid off a bunch of principal ... so I will have like 8K less to write off in interest....

I normally adjust withholdings in an attempt to even things out every year. This years owed federal $850 and got back $640 from the state. Sort of even, I guess.

My tax return got deposited to my account the other day. Credit line paid off! Though I have some summer projects I want to take on so probably end up putting more on the credit line. I do have about 1k saved up though. I figure the shed won't cost more than that, which is one of the major projects I want to do.

We got our amended K-1 form a couple days ago and worked on filing over the last couple nights. Turned out to be a nice surprise. Only owed 13k to the fed and around 2k to the state. We had enough left over from the 24k disbursement to cover our first estimated quarterlies for 2017 which were around 3.3k. Now we wait and see if we get audited....
