How are you living your life?

I'm a student (until May) and have student loans. Other than that I don't keep a balance on my CC.

Living it somewhat fast. I spend a majority of my pay and only saving for <6 months ahead.

So, living is all about managing financial risk?

Not really, I just want to see people's mentality on how they spend their money from working. Title was misleading.

I was living fairly relaxed.. now I'm getting divorced and have been a complete wrecking ball. Having fun though.

Here's what I did so far:

- Racked up $300K in credit card debt.
- Stopped paying them.
- Bought an expensive house.
- Stopped paying for it.
- Bought an expensive car.
- Stopped paying for it.
- Still living in a nice house with an expensive car, with $300K in the bank, not paying for anything.

LOLFAILOUT

That's how I roll.

Oh was that Kumar guy on House your idol?

I spend what I have to spend.

I tend to buy nice things and name brands and maybe go a little over the top when it comes to gifts for other people, but I'm not going into debt doing it. I make more than I spend, all my CC's are paid off, and I'm working on developing a 6-9 month cushion in my savings account in case I were to ever find myself unemployed (currently, I've only got enough cash to last 3 months assuming no unemployment or social programs)

Why is everyone getting divorced? 🙁

I budget over 8 month cycle (1 coop term + 1 school term)... money from the coop term has to go to school costs first and everything else after that,

My wife and I live a nice balance of spending & saving. We're low maintenance and don't require a lot of luxuries to enjoy life.

We're only 30 but still are already making plans on how early we can retire and where to.

Damn, sorry to hear man. 🙁

To answer the OP, I spend "somewhat slow" according to the poll I guess. I should probably pay more attention to my monthly intake compared to spending, and I have an account at mint.com, but other than bills/rent I buy the standard food, gas (barely drive, mostly to work and back which is 5 minutes each way), rent a movie about each week. I do smoke though, 1/2 - 1 pack a day, and I drink pretty often but almost always buy cheap beer or liquor.

I contribute 6% of my paychecks to my 401(k) and do not carry credit card debt as I pay them off in full. Occasionally, like once a month, I'll buy a DVD or album but other than that I don't buy things for myself.

🙁 Damn, dude. Sorry to hear that. I remember reading your L&R thread and hoping it would work out for you and your wife.

As for the poll, I picked the "live like I'll be 90" option. I treat myself to the odd CD, movie and drinks with friends, but I live a pretty simple life. I save probably half of my income and put much of it into my RSP and investments.

Since I am a saver, whenever I've wanted to make a big purchase or go traveling, I've never had a problem since the money is already there.

I'm a college student with students loans and no source of income. I have no car, nothing valuable, and am forced to eat crappy cafeteria food daily. Sometimes I hate college...
