Brother got a $49 ticket for parking his car on a hill (I wasn't there) without turning his wheels in. His license plate still says NY on it. Whatever happened to warnings ? On the letter he got, it states that no sign/posting is necessary for this law to be enforced. Well that's all fine and dandy but how are we supposed to know in the first place ??? He's been there less than 1 month and came across this his 2nd week. He's contesting it.

Yeah, not turning your wheel in...

I agree there should be a warning, but you really should know when to turn your wheel in. Didn't anyone take driver's ed? They don't even have hills where I'm at but they taught me anyhow...

i got the same ticket a few years back. Unfortunately, ignorance of the law is not grounds for dismissal of the ticket.

It is not standard practice. It is safe practice. In driver's ed, they taught us to look over our shoulders too, but does everyone ? I'm sure not everyone pulls their handbrakes either.. should they get tickets ? All we ask for was either a warning or a sign.

Fvck that, I know too, but I don't do it. I just pull the handbrake. I would've also gotten a ticket.

Most of you would've gotten tickets too. Just because you know, doesn't mean you'd do it. Am I wrong ? Or are you all sticklers for handbook stuff ? Title edited.

I DONT KNOW, whats the reasoning behind doing this? you have a handbrake for hill parking, and we were told to use that, explain!!!!!!

When you roll backwards or forwards (somehow), where would your car go if your wheels were turned in ?

I know why you're supposed to do it but I never knew it was a freaking law. :p Hell, I don't really know anyone who actually does that.

For me, I always have the wheels turned if I'm on a hill. I'm not a stickler for handbook stuff by any means, but it's just a standard safety precaution.

Actually, I do it.

If someone's going to look stupid by having their car roll out into the middle of the street or hit another parked car because their brakes went out, I don't want to be them.

That's nice, have you ever lived somewhere besides CA ? Around most places, it's not a problem to begin with. I was talking to those who don't already live there.

This is why you make sure that the idiot politicians who pass idiotic laws like these get canned in the next election.

Curious - is it bad for the front axles of the car if you park all the time with the wheels turned ? Maybe for an extended amount of time ? General question.

As I stated a few posts above, I grew up in Miami. I've only lived in California for 4 years and I learned this practice (although I didn't use it much) in Miami.
