ch33zw1z, the token white guy...
I still carry the city mindset with me though. It's tough to shake. People in my area don't lock their cars, or even doors often. Just not something you do in the city....you lock your locks.

One more example of how it changes people, then I'll stop.

In a nice quiet artsy fartsy area near me, my wife and I went to have dinner a few years ago. Parking is free after 6pm, it was 530pm when we parked. Parking is packed in this area. So I step out of my car, lock the doors, and a dude approaches me and says something to me about parking...to which I'm immediately standoffish, and tell him to step off, it's my spot.

Turns out, he had paid for a whole day of parking, and was leaving, and wanted to give me the parking pass for the last 30 minutes....

I realized after about 30 seconds, apologized, and thanked him.

But just an example of the differences between areas. In the city, if someone approaches you randomly, it's not usually to help you.

If you guys really want, I can provide an example of cops racially profiling me :D

Lol, as a PI back in the day I'd be in the worst parts of Philly late at night, when the prostitutes are out in force. You'd be amazed at how many there are out and about. They could be fairly aggressive in hawking their wares, especially if they were in a group and high, so I'd learned to ignore them and not to engage. So, there I was, stopped at a light at 2 in the morning at 5th and Zimbabwe with a young black woman energetically trying to get my attention, and me manfully ignoring her. Turns out she was just trying to let me know my headlights weren't on. I felt really bad. City life coarsens you.
