probably should go in either software or networking but i'm asking a general question about their products so i decided to post here

so how are they?

they seem like a small company making inexpensive entry-level products. my main concern with cheap products are the drivers and software. how are they? well-crafted? room for improvements?

thanks

I have used a couple of their products in the past and did not run into any problems while using them.

I used one of their wireless G pcmcia adapters for a long time. It seemed reliable, and i was satisfied with the driver, too.

I've used Linksys, Buffalo, Netgear and Trendnet routers. The Trendnet lasted the shortest time.

Works fine here. Same internal guts as DLink. They come with 3 yr warranty. 54 and 108 versions were FREE AR at COMPUSA last month.

They work OK, the PCMCIA an d PCI are good.

Stay away from theie USB thumb Wireless cards.

There thermal construction is not designed well and they heat until they quit.

I picked up one of the 802.11g PCI cards a couple weeks ago and put it in a rig with fresh install of XP with SP2 . Whenever the card had an active connection to the router it would spike the CPU usage to 50-100% on average. Hardware interrupts and deferred procedure calls where what I was getting in abundance. Tried the newest drivers for the card and had the same problem. I tried to figure it out for a few days and it turned out that it was simply RF interference. You could adjust the CPU usage just by moving your hand around the antennae or moving the case around. RMA'd it and got a new one... same problem. Installed linux on the same rig with the RMA'd card... problem went away.

So, the hardware is decent I guess but the drivers are garbage and their tech support people are idiots. I'd stay away, their products just aren't worth it.

TrendNet is a very common brand in our local SWS Electronics store. I have used their NICs for several years and never a problem from them. They seem to be cheap and decent. They are Chinese products from China's big offshore tech island.
