They are just one step down from Samsung IMO. So, therefore they are good.

I've been wavering btw a Toshiba Regza and Panasonic. Everything I've read and seen about the Toshiba is great.

I have an older Regza 37HL67 & am very happy with it ... color accuracy & black levels were as good or better then any other comparably priced LCD I looked at & I did a ton of shopping around.

If you decide to buy from Circuit City be sure to grab a 10% discount coupon off e-bay for a couple bucks & use it to order online for in-store pickup.

Older as in an earlier production model? Toshiba is still manufacturing the 37HL67.

Older in the sense that it was introduced about a year ago & is a 60hz/720p panel ... I just bought it a couple weeks ago so its new to me!

I have a 32HL67U Regza and absolutely love it! It was more than other 32-inchers but worth it.

I have a 32" Regza 720p LCD with a built-in DVD player that I really enjoy. Friends thought I was nuts, but I wanted it for the bedroom and wanted to minimize the amount of electronics in the bedroom.

Standard def picture isn't that great up close, but much of that is due to the compression artifacts from my digital cable. Movies look great as does HD programming. I definitely recommend the Toshiba line.

I actually bought this exact TV on my first attempt & also liked it very much, it just wasn't big enough to satisfy me so I returned it & got the larger model sans DVD ... the integrated DVD player was actually very good & the SDTV picture quality was a major selling point for me.

reading a bit on the avsforums and some toshiba's exhibit 'green push' problems.

argh... why can't i find a quality LCD manufacturer without problems without forking over big bucks to sony?
toshiba - green push
samsung - juddering
sharp - banding

looks like i'm going to have to stick with panasonic plasmas.
with plasma's there's less hit or miss.
with lcd's, there's always the possibility of these problems and dead pixels.

The Toshiba "green push" problem only effects the HL167 1080p seris TV's ... the HL67 & newer thin-bezel models do not have this problem.

Edit: Also you forgot Sony's uneven back-lighting! :p

No HDTV is perfect man, you have to look at a bunch of them & decide for yourself which one you like best ... AVS is a great forum for information but if you spend too much time there dwelling on every negative detail you'll drive yourself nuts & never buy anything!

according to the thread, it's much more prevalent in the 167/177's but slightly noticeable in some of the 350U's.

i haven't even bothered researching sony's because they're beyond what i want to spend.
just that in every thread i read on the other models, it seems as if a lot recommend sony as the better alternative, if price were no object, etc.

i do have to say that in general, plasma's are less problematic, right?

It depends ... Plasma's are more prone to burn-in then LCD's & many run at odd resolutions for HDTV like 1024x768 or 1080 regardless of being rated at 720p/1080p, also they supposedly don't last as long as LCD's because the actual plasma loses its ability to produce color over time, while LCD's only require replacement of the backlight to perform like new. (however as far as I know only Sharp offers easily replacable lamps) In addition Plasma's are a lot heavier & more fragile then LCD's which may or may not matter to you depending on how often you move.

On the upside, most plasma's offer deeper blacks then any LCD along with less motion-blur & more vibrant color with a somwhat better viewing angle.

Again its a matter of personal preference, you need to decide which type of screen you prefer based on your own likes & dislikes... as long as you end up happy with your choice thats what really counts.
