are they reliable? do many people have problems with them breaking down? i Want to put it in a external enclosure and not worry about losing the data.

I have a non "SE" WD 100 gig drive and it's been reliable so far. I've had good experiences with WD drives. The only thing I would worry about with an external enclosure is heat, but that shouldn't be a big problem since these drives don't get that hot. If you can get an external enclosure with a fan, that would be nice.

I have 2 WD drives (BB series) and they have been very relible and cool unlike my previous Maxtors UDMA 66).
You will have more problems with dropping your external enclosure than the drives suffering premature death.

I have experienced a much lower failure rate on Maxtor than WD. Maxtor has the best service should there be a problem, that alone keeps me in Maxtor drives.
