That's not really true. The 280M is the same as a 9800M GTX, which is basicly the same as the 8800M GTX with some minor core improvements. They're essentially the same chip.
I bought my Sager 5720 through PC Torque back in 2005, no problems with it. Its Dothan 2.13Ghz and 7800GTX held up very well until the second half of 2008, when its GPU was eclipsed by newer models.
I'm looking at an NP8662 to replace it, but I don't know if I can justify the cost these days. Plus, I think I'd rather have a 13 or 14in laptop, just need to find one with a decent GPU.
