How are my headphones?

I've had these wireless headphones forever, and i've really liked them, but these are my second pair and they're getting old, wondering if i should get some nice Sennheiser's instead. Plus i don't like paying for batteries all the time with these...probably spent over $200 on batteries alone in the last 5 or 6 years.

Anyhow, i googled up my headphones stats, and was hoping you could tell me if it'd be worth the jump to some nice Sennheiser phones instead, here comes the paste:
Model 6000IR

Product Specifications

* Operating Range in Room: Up To 25 Ft.
* Frequency response: 35-18,000Hz
* S/N ratio: 60dB
* Channel separation: 45dB
------------------------------------------------------------

Well, not sure if that's all of the headphones' stats, but that's all i could find. They seem to be kind of rare.

your frequency responce is absolutly terrible..
those phones must have 0 base.. 35hz is very very high...
even the lowest end sennhieser PC Headset with mike is around 18-20hz on the bass end..
ya you would notice a huge differnce with a modern headset
i recommend the Sennheiser PC150 or PC155 PC headsets for awesome headset with a mike for voice chat.

Get Sennheiser HD570 headphones. $75 shipped on Amazon.

-long, Kevlar-reinforced cord (you can run it over with your chair wheels and it'll be fine)
-really good sound quality
-no headphone amp needed (I use mine hooked up to my audigy2 zs)
-super comfy - you can wear em all day without getting a headache

*Ahem*, the thing with expensive headphones (i'm looking at the 580s) is that in addition people say you should really get an amp. How much extra would that run me? I don't know anything about headphones amps.

I got a big surround sound stereo system in my room, is there anyway that (connected to my computer) could be used as an amp?

Is your source good enough for it?

With those headphones I'd get an amp. For a good dedicated headphone amp paired with those phones it could cost up to around $100 onward. If that's a concern there are other high-end headphones that aren't as amp dependant.

Yeah, don't got the coin to buy new phones and an amp, so some other high quality headphones that aren't amp dependent might be good, any reccomendations? Won't pay more than $130, would rather pay around $100. I listen to mp3s and game a lot.

Actually the 35hz is't a problem at all. You'll need big speakers to get much below 35hz. That's if the figure is honest, which it probably isn't.
The S/N ratio however is terrible, as one would expect from wireless headphones. Channel separation is also poor.
Get a wired headphone. The $200 dollars you spent on batteries would have got you a good one. But even the cheapest corded headphone will be better than an analog wireless one.

So it might be possible to use my surround sound stereo system as an amp? It's kind of an old one, 4.1 sound i think. I don't know what i'm talking about 😛

So i could get some Senn 580s and a Cmoy amp and all would be well? Don't think i would like the 580 wires though, they come out of both sites of the headphones seems like it would be real annoying.

Well with that crappy sound card what's the point? Under the 150 mark the best open headphones are the sennhesier 555s which are a bit easier to drive than the 580s.The best closed are the audio techna a500s which can only be ordered from audiocubes.com. And a cmoy is not really enough to drive the 580s. Visit head-fi.org if you wanna learn more. Usually takes 24 hours for your account to go through. I myself use the 555s with the chaintech av710 and a sb live for gaming. Creative cards freaking suck for music btw. You'll be shocked at how good headphones can sound with the right source.🙂

I'd say go with the 570s. They work great out of the box.

If you really want to go higher-end, check out Headroom's selection of headphone amps. My friend has an Airhead and really loves it. They also make a bithead, which will connect to a USB port on your computer.

The 570s don't need an amp if you connect them to a good sound card.

Are labtec headphones any good? I have the elite 840's, but I don't think they are made anymore. I'm pretty happy with them, but I'm just curious how they stack up.

So you think an Audigy 2 ZS is crappy but you use a SB live? 😛

Thanks for the reccomendations people, i'll check em out. Leaning toward the 570s right now...but kinda looking for something else, heard a lot of mixed reviews on the 570s. Any other reccomendations? Doesn't have to be Sennheiser.

Hah, no it isn't. I upgraded from a SB live gamer and never looked back, it's much better than a SB live, don't know what you guys are reading. Not much out there is better than an Audigy 2 ZS (made by soundblaster by the way), not for less than double the price anyways.

Err I just set up a audigy 2 for my brother dude. The thing blows. I had an article about that card, it's basically because it resamples everything, the sound quality is lost. Even the the chipset the card uses is crappy. As I recall the sound was so bloated it had no fidelity...there is a roll off in the highs too. That was fully tweaked...not tweaked it's even worse.

Always use a card that uses the envy chipset. I just bought the chaintech av710 for 25 dollars and it sounds way better than the a2. It's is a completely barebones card though, doesn't even have a equalizer. No good for gaming though, which is why is use the sb-live, my pc isn't fast enough that I can spare processing power.

However the DMX6FireLT is on par with the a2 for games now and it's uses a higher level envy chip than the av710 and it has more features than the av710. If you don't mind going without eax3&4(which is never used) pick up that card.

If you wanna see what people mean,get the av710 not like you'll be out much money. You'll see what I'm saying. There is a reason why creative cards are so despised.

Was referring to the SB Live

I like my Audigy2 ZS. The included software is somewhat bloated, but its a great sound card to me. My old MSI K7T Turbo onboard audio gave me headaches when listening to my HD570s, the Audigy2 doesn't. Plus Santa gave it to me, so no change out of my wallet 🙂
