How are my chances for college?

I just got back my SAT scores, 1040, pretty disappointed about that, but colleges take other things into consideration right? Like, I have a 3.7 GPA and ranked in the top 10% (like, #7 or #8) and I'm in the National Honor Society and Sr. Beta Club and all that..

So I still stand to get into a nice college (Clemson, USC, considering I live in SC ;)), don't I?

ill second the decent college bit.

although the whole application process is a mystery. one of my best friends had 1360 SATs, 3.8ish gpa, top 10% of class, student body vice president, honor society, 2 sports, community service and other crap and stanford shot him down. go figure.

take them again.

as for sc... well... if you got the money you can go. :)

you can still get into some nice schools with what you have. and if you can write compelling essays that furthers your cause.

i know tons of people who did way better than that, that got shot down. people with 4.6 GPAs, and valedictorians , 1540 SATs. people who cried afterwards.

as for dismal, he has a good chance at getting into a lot of colleges. i mean probably not stanford or harvard, unless the guy is a 6'11" shot blocker, but plenty of college.

i got into purdue university with a 1090. sats dont weigh as much as most people think. national honors society looks really good on an app. you should have no problem getting into a decent school.

3.8 and a 1360 on the SAT is too low (ok, some people will of course get through) to go to Stanford unless he did something great like fly over to Somalia and saved 18 starving children from a starving and blood-thirsty chimpanzee. Most universities know that people lie about their extra curricular activities when they send in their applications!

You have no chance. Make your time!

Seriously, you do have a chance. I know someone who got into University of Virginia with a 1100 SAT score. Just study some more, I'm sure you'll get in.

people with 1540s, thats sad. how on earth do you get a 4.6gpa?!? the highest possible for us was a 4.0.

This is so stupid, though, I've got straight 100's on my report card (honors Trig, Physics, Accounting, 93 in AP English, though)!

I hate standarized tests! :|

Why did you take the test so late? Don't you have to start applying now?

You'll still probably get into the schools you listed. They don't have the strictest GPA & standardized test score standards. For example, according to US News, Clemson's average GPA is 3.64 with a 1080-1260 SAT.

Why is a 1540 sad? 4.6 is probably their weighted GPA...some schools have AP classes where an A=5.0, B=4.0, C=3.0

1540, not sad as a score. but sad in the fact that they still didnt make it into stanford with that score. i would have loved to have scored that high.

Make sure you do well on SAT IIs, UC's seem to care about them.

I have a 1330 and I'm applying to Stanford ... oh well, I don't think I'll go there anyway, too expensive :p

colleges are putting less and less emphasis on SAT scores nowadays. based on GPA you'd probably get into at least some of US News' top tier.

You can always get into a community college. But I think that you still have a pretty decent chance to get into a State college.

learn from me. i did jack sh1t in high school. i had 1560 sats and like a 4.2 weighted, my SAT 2s were like 800, 790 , 690, for like chem, math and writing. most of my teachers hated me. i applied at stanford and MIT (i actually wanted to go to MIT too). i had a big problem with teacher recommendations since i had one teacher who actually liked me. well needless to say i didnt get in to either one. MIT actually had an interview, where they ask you if you ever did anything really weird like design a topographical map of your city. i pretty much failed that, all i could say was me and my friends invented lan parties in 8th grade. hahahaha. Basically what i learned from the whole college app thing, is that if you didnt like spoon out food at a homeless kitchen like every weekend while cleaning up beach trash, or didnt research AIDs in your spare time, your grades dont mean crap at super high up there 30k a year schools. they are real expensive though, so i only thought MIT would maybe have been a good value.

Needless to say, i am a proponent of the old 75% of people get into UCLA based soley on grades and tests, because i really dont think i'd have gotten in without it.
