I just bougt an Asus F8SN-B1, so far no problems, and I realy like the aesthetic. Haven't had time to really test performance or battery life or anything like that.

Before that I had an Acer. Not quite as attractive, cheaper materials and poorer build quality, but it had good performance, and I never had any problems with it. The worst thing was probably the terrible LCD panel.

I had nothing but praise for Acer, until my Acer Ferrari 3200 suddenly stopped working after 3 years of use. Something went wrong with the motherboard and now it's going to cost me $400 to fix it.

At least it timed it right, it literally died right after I finished a 27-page final lab report.

TBH I've never had a decent experience with Acer, I owned one back in the P3 days, and it had to be sent for repairs 3 times within the first year and a half with problems ranging from usb ports ceasing to function to the HSF fan wires melting and shorting out.

The place I used to go to high school reccomended Acer laptops to the students there (most of them were boarders, ie living in the dorms, so there was a tech center to help with pc problems). To date, out of about 400 boarders, I didn't hear a single person who didn't complain about the acers, the complains ranged from being slow as f***, to cheap build quality (creaking/loose hinges, paint chipping easily etc)

If I were you, I'd go with Asus.

They're both really good brands, you could go with either one. I have more experience with Acer and never had problems, Asus are a bit more expensive, very well built and have a very affordable gaming model line.

Asus is a very solid brand. Asus externally and internally is just a better bang for your buck then any of those "main brand" companies out there that you think are good (dell, hp, etc...). The truth is, Asus actually makes there laptops in their own factory, everything from the ground up. A lot of "main brand" companies have laptop shells that were all built in the same factory over in china.
