How are AMD mobile processors compared to Intel Core 2 Dual

Looking at some HP laptops and I see a number of cheaper ones with either

Mobile AMD Sempron(TM) 3500+ (1.80GHz/512KB)
or
AMD Turion(TM) 64 X2 Mobile TL-52 (1.60GHz/512KB)

processors. Are those any good? Is teh Turion the 64bit one (if so, do I need 64 bit windows?)
